Text Twitter sold data to Aleksandr Kogan’s Global Science Research (GSR), the company that supplied the Facebook data of up to 87 million users to political data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.
GSR was granted access to large-scale public Twitter data for one day in 2015, according to Bloomberg.
“In 2015, GSR did have one-time API access to a random sample of public tweets from a five-month period from December 2014 to April 2015,” Twitter said in a statement to Bloomberg. “Based on the recent reports, we conducted our own internal review and did not find any access to private data about people who use Twitter.”
On Twitter, Cambridge Analytica said it never received Twitter data from Aleksandr Kogan or GSR.
The news comes as Facebook continues to deal with fallout from the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Earlier this month, Facebook’s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg testified before Congress to answer questions about how the company handles the data of its more than two billion users.
